Exporting iOS Tabs

Written: 25-Aug-2020

I was looking for a method to get all my tabs from an iPhone to my laptop (running linux).

Why? and why not just copy and paste links? Because there were ~380 links, because I’m a digital hoarder, and decided it was time for a clearout and I wanted to do the sorting on my laptop.

Unfortunately all the systems given relied on having a Mac, running iTunes, running some dodgy windows software, or messing around w/ iCloud1. After looking at several useless tutorials I managed to discover this method. IMO It’s quite a robust and very flexible, and should work for anyone.

Instructions

Tap and hold the book icon and Add Bookmarks for XXX Tabs. Select a folder in you’re bookmarks, and save those tabs.

Bookmark Icon.
Bookmark Options. Save all tabs to bookmarks.

Open a new tab (or go to an existing one), and tap the book icon. Tap+Hold the folder of saved tabs, and tap on Copy Contents when it appears.

Copy all bookmark URLs for export.

What’s copies to your clipboard now is a list of all the urls. Do as you please/need to get them wherever you need to. For me I paste the links to a email and then email them to myself2.

  1. Which doesn’t work on linux, nor do the browser extensions.↩︎

  2. Janky? Yes. But it works easily for little things like some text.↩︎
